This large Ailsa dates from the 1930's and appears to have been sailed and perhaps raced extensively.
The hull is hollowed pine with a separate deck. The paintwork is in good condition with just a few marks. The deck is in good order with a few marks on the edge. It has a false cabin top which was fitted to some of the larger Ailsa's in the thirties. She also has a name plaque "Firecrest" fitted just aft of the cabin top.
The deck fittings, the spars and the sails are all original. The sails are made of the stripped material popular in the 1930's. However, the sails have been reinforced at the tacks and clews and are showing that they have been used. There is a repair on the luff of the jib and there are some stains on both the jib and the mainsail. It is fair to say that the sails are fine for display but their sailing days are behind them.
Firecrest is in remarkable condition for her age and usage.
Ailsas are now very collectable and this one has so much character.
The stand is relatively modern but is in included in the sale if required.
