This striking gaff rigged pond yacht dates from the first decades of the twentieth century. Although probably home made this yacht appears to have been based on the design of working boats like the Southwold lugger or the Scottish Fifer.
She has a beautiful straight line "wineglass" shaped hull which was carved from solid pitch pine with a separate deck. There is a long wooden keel with an inset of lead ballast. There is some paint loss on the ballast and two holes which suggest extra ballast may have been added in increased winds.
There is black paintwork above the waterline and red below. This yacht has been sailed so she does have some marks and it is unlikely that the paintwork is original.
The deck is hardwood with drawn plank lines and a lovely green edge. There are some marks in the varnish most notably just aft of the main sheet horse.
All the deck fittings are original.
The sails are quite delicate with a few holes and a couple of repairs. There is some staining as well.
She is a very pretty yacht from the great era of pond yachts.
The stand is pine and is not as old as the yacht. It is included in the sale if required as it shows the yacht very well.
