This pond yacht was one the larger models of a range of yachts made for Gamages and Clyde Model Dockyard in the 1930's. Normally these yachts were named after the famous "J class"/Americas Cup yachts of the era such as Shamrock and Endeavour. Unusually, for some reason, this particular yacht is called Maple.

She has her original green paintwork. She has been sailed but even so the paintwork is in really good condition, The paintwork has been overvarnished which was common in yachts of this era.

These yachts were normally fitted with swinging door type rudders but, in our experience, the largest were fitted with early forms of Braine steering

The deck is original with drawn plank lines. It has a lovely colour with some crackled varnish marks.  She has the distinctive yacht shaped mast upstand associated with Gamages.

The spars , bowsies and hooks are all original. The mainmast appears to have been repaired at some point as there is a brass ferrule close to the top. The sails are in very good condition but appear to be replacements from the 1950's. There are a some stains and some foxing but no holes or tears.

Over the years the rigging will have been renewed.

This is a very elegant example of the 1930's pond yacht.

The stand is made of oak but is not as old as the yacht. However, it is included in the sale if required as it displays the yacht so well.
