This very attractive pond yacht was made by Alexander of Preston.
She appears to have been sailed extensively so there are some marks on the hull most notably at the bow where she has been repaired. A protective metal strip has been fitted to the keel. The colour scheme appears to be original but over the years quite a lot of the hull has been touched up and overpainted.
All of the deck fittings are present and original including the sheet horses and the braine steering. The deck has its original varnish and plank lines. The JA transfer is in good order.
The spars are original, wooden, and painted. There is some paint loss.
All the hooks and bowsies are original but some of the rigging has been renewed.
The sails are replacements but have some age to them. They are in good condition with just some foxing but no holes or tears. They have been treated for protection, presumably from new, when the yacht was being sailed.
This Alexander is a little unusual as she has the JA transfer rather than a name plaque. This suggests that she may have been sold by Alexanders themselves rather than one of the large stores of the time such as Hamleys, or Bassett-Lowke.
The stand is also unusual as it is not the normal design associated with Alexander.
However, it fits the yacht beautifully and has an Alexander name sticker on it.
It is included in the sale.
She is a beautiful yacht with the wonderful quality hull shape you expect from Alexander and sons.
