The Comet is the largest of the post WWII BR range of Star Production pond yachts.
Due to their vibrant colours the BR's are probably the most decorative and therefore the most collectable of all the Star yachts.
This particular yacht has the round stern and the bowsprit fittings of the 1950's.
She has been sailed and has also suffered UV damage whilst she has been displayed.
The paintwork is original, green above the waterline and varnish below. There is some paint loss on the bow and the bottom of the keel but otherwise the paint and the varnish are in good condition with just some marks from sailing. The Comet transfers are perfect.
The deck is original and in good condition. The varnish has UV damage and needs to be replaced. The deck fittings are all original and include bowsprit holders left over from the 1930's.
The rig is all original but the sails have UV damage and will need to be replaced. If you do not wish to make your own new sails can be obtained from the BSYAS ( Birkenhead Star Yacht Appreciation Soc ). The cost will be around £49 plus postage.
The rig has been fitted simply for the photographs. All the rigging will need to be replaced and the yacht rerigged.
All large Stars are now very collectable, especially this range, and the Comet was one of the most expensive to buy when new.
Consequently they are now very difficult to find and this example is offered at a price commensurate with her condition.
